Stamps of French West Africa: International Exhibition for Wildlife Protection, Paris, May 1955
We tend to think of wildlife protection as being a fairly contemporary phenomenon. But here are two early fine stamps, issued May 2, 1955, by French West Africa for the International Wildlife Protection Exhibition in Paris that month.
Stamps of St. Pierre & Miquelon: Fishing Vessel Issue (1956)
Being a maritime nation, St. Pierre and Miquelon naturally issue a number of stamps related to fishing. This is a fine example depicting the fish freezer “Le Galantry” and was designed and engraved by H. Cheffer and recess printed, it was issued for the Economic and Social Development Fund. Perf 13.

It is based on a learned article extracted from “The Stamp Collector’s Magazine” (November 1, 1872) and written by the distinguished early philatelist Overy Taylor. It’s an interesting account of these classic stamps.

The French ‘Penny Black’ made its début on New Year’s Day 1849. Although French postal administration closely observed the working of Uniform Penny Postage in Britain and the efficacy of adhesive stamps, eight years passed before the necessary legislation passed.

Denmark adopted adhesive stamps in April, 1851, when the 4 rigsbankskilling stamp was issued. A 2 rbs value, for Copenhagen local letters, was issued later the same month.
These stamps engraved by E. Frederici and F. Schimbock and recess printed were issued on May 31, 1933.
