A comprehensive site devoted to the philatelic products associated with the 2011 Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton has been launched. Richly illustrated, www.RoyalWeddingStamps.net will become a one-stop shop for announcements, articles, and philatelic research essays devoted to the stamp issues relating to 2011’s biggest royal event.

Says author David Cupp, “I wanted to create the site that I couldn’t find – one devoted to all things philatelic connected to the Royal Wedding. The importance of this event is such that even countries like New Zealand, Australia, and Canada are releasing stamps to honor it, to say nothing of the many territories and other countries planning stamps. As a result, most web searches for information on royal wedding stamps turned up a hodgepodge of sites. I wanted to give readers a single source to turn to.”

Appropriately, the site was launched with articles detailing the Isle of Man’s engagement miniature sheet – the first postal authority to commemorate the engagement did so only ten days after it was announced – and New Zealand’s wedding stamps. New Zealand was the first of the senior Commonwealth realms to issue stamps, on March 23.

Articles are planned on the stamps of other postal authorities as they are issued. The site should be current with announced releases by early April. Essays are also planned discussing the photography and other artwork shown on the stamps, as well as other topics that will give readers a better understanding of these historic issues. Says Cupp, “I want this to be a site that will appeal both to the most serious topical philatelist and to the most general of collectors.”

The one thing the site will not be is commercial – stamps will not be sold via the website, but links will be given as appropriate to allow readers to purchase the stamps from the issuing authorities or other outlets if they wish.
