Percé
The French equivalent of roulette meaning quite literally pierced. Several types are recognised by collectors including:
- Percé en arc – cuts of short curved arcs. The edge of the stamps appear scalloped.
- Percé en ligne droit – The normal roulette made of short straight cuts.
- Percé en losanges – The cuts are in the form of a cross.
- Percé en points – The cuts are made by a series of pin pricks (but unlike pin perforation the paper is not removed).
- Percé en scie – The cuts are made in a zig-zag line, which gives the edges of the stamp the resemblance of saw teeth.
- Percé en serpentine – Producing very pronounced teeth on the edges of the stamp like the multi-humped back of a serpent.
