Response to Quality v. Quantity (by G. Watson)

Great!

That’s what I can say about this article, suggesting to new collectors all they need to know before they spend too much for nothing!

When someone asks me for some instruction in collecting or to give opinion how, what and where - I also suggest first to make some plan and with this plan start to build personal collection. In one thing I’m little different from Mr. Watson, it is to buy from public auction - not because something is there wrong, but for public auction You need to have one advanced collection - and than from auction You will made just “final touch” for Your collection.

I prefer and suggest, for medium collector and starter, to make one personal contact with one or two dealer, and from them obtain all material that need to be in collection till one “border” where you will need to search public auction for more rare items. Why? Simply - from public auction, you will not find cheap material, or even “middle priced” material, because it is uneconomically to handle it in public auction, it have low profit margin and most auction will have this kind of material in some kind of “lot” or “box” where you will need to purchase also material that You don’t need.

Because that - I suggest one or two “Your” dealer, and from them obtain material from your “want-list” - till it come to more rare and expensive items, where auction house have more opportunity.

best regards to all
