West German town in Westphalia where a local post, Stadtbrief-Beförderung Courier, was founded by Karl Mangelsdorf on January 12, 1898.

Stamps of 2 and 3 pfennig denominations were issued in a design showing the value near the foot, the word COURIER at the top and STADT-BEFÖRDERUNG* in a triangle enclosing an envelope.

An ornamented panel appeared at the extreme foot. In addition the 14pf value of the 1895 issue of Görlitz was used at Hagen and its use there can be recognised only by the cancellation.

These stamps are of great interest to collectors specialising in this field.

The Hagen post was closed in March 31, 1900.

* Stadtbrief is German for ‘city letter’ and Beförderung ‘transport’.
