This fauna issue by Croatian Post depicts majestic wild animals. These are bear, fox, wolf and jackal.
The bear stamp
The Bear (Ursus arctos) is the largest wild animal and predator on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is a loner, spends the winters in caves, forest hollows or lairs.
The bear is an omnivore, that feeds on other animals (bugs, smaller mammals and similar), strawberries and plants, and most often hunts even larger wildlife like deer.
The fox stamp
The fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the most outspread wild representative of the dog family in Europe.
The fox is the largest member of the Vulpes clan and the most geographically outspread member of the Carnivora group. It is an animal of dusk and nighttime, feeds on rodents and other smaller animals, plants as well as on carrion.
The wolf stamp
The wolf (Canis lupus) is a mammal from the Canidae family.
They have a joint origin with the domestic dog (Canis familiaris) and experts say that they are the forefather of all existing dogs today.
In B&H they prevail on highland areas of the Dinaric Alps. They feed on herbivores and specifically on species that are most common in the area where they habitat.
The jackal stamp
The jackal (Canis aureus) belongs to the dog species (Canis). They hunt animals that are small to middle sized, and also are known as vultures.
During the day they spend their time hidden in bushes, and at nightfall set off for all-night hunting.
While they hunt small prey by themselves, larger prey is hunted down in packs and that kind of hunting is followed by unpleasant yowling, by which jackals communicate.
