The stamp set portrays the Qinhuai River in Nanjing and the Seine River in Paris. A branch of the Yangtze River, the Qinhuai flows 110 kilometers through the heart of Nanjing. The river consists of the inner and outer parts, of which the inner Qinhuai stretches for five kilometers and is the most bustling area in the ancient capital of Nanjing. Over more than 1,000 years, the area has been a place concentrating prosperous commerce and profound culture. A major shipping artery in northern France, the Seine extends 776 kilometers in total length and snakes from west to north through the urban areas of Paris. The prosperity of the French capital is largely credited to the river, which makes it an important inland port in France. The Seine is lined with countless historic and cultural relics, many of which have been inscribed onto the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage.
