India Silver 1935
The top value in a series of seven, this stamp depicts a pagoda in Mandalay, a reminder that until 1937 Burma was administered as part of India.
The stamps were offset-lithographed and commemorated the Silver jubilee of King George V, the most interesting and colourful of all the issues made to celebrate that event.
The stamps followed the pattern established by the New Delhi series of 1931 (discussed on this site) and featured characteristic landmarks from various parts of India.
The King’s portrait is framed by Coronation regalia and the collar of the Star of india.
