The stamp depicts La nymphe Salmacis, a work by Monegasque sculptor François-Joseph Bosio (1768–1845). Bosio established himself in Paris and became portrait sculptor to Napoleon I and then a teacher at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. In 1821, he was appointed first sculptor to the King. His major works are to be found in Paris: 20 bas-reliefs for the column in Place Vendôme, the equestrian sculpture Louis XIV in Place des Victoires, for which he received the title of Baron, the Quadriga of the Arc de Triomphe du Carroussel, and Henry IV as a Child, Aristaeus and Hercules Wrestling Achelous, all three of which are in the Louvre.
