$Pakistan 1947 10r
The indian sub-continent was partitioned in August 1947, the predominantly Moslem areas becoming the dominion of Pakistan.
Contemporary Indian stamps were overprinted ‘Pakistan’ pending the production of distinctive stamps.
The majority of the overprints were carried out at the Indian Security Printing Press, Nasik, but provisional overprints were also applied by local postmasters. These were handstruck or machine printed and vary enormously in size, style and colour.
